Resources

The Lord has been so gracious to bring me in contact with many amazing resources that have encouraged me as I walk through the valley of the shadow of death. I know so many people are walking through grief of some kind and I hope this page is helpful to show some great resources - for yourself or for someone you know who is hurting. All of these books are general for suffering and not specific for widowhood…

Books for adults

Daily Life Principles Bible by Dr. Charles Stanley

Of course, you know the book that has the greatest amount of HOPE encouragement and in every sense of the word is life changing. This is that book. Every time you open it, God will speak. He meets us right where we are at and none of the words you read will return void.

The One Year Book of Hope by Nancy Guthrie

This lady has lost 2 children and has gone through heavy grief. She communicates very well and it is short and to the point and filled with scripture and truth from the Lord walking you through different parts of suffering.

Streams in the Desert by L. D Cowman

Full of amazing lines and poems, and scripture and truth all on storms and suffering.

Besides Still Waters by C. H. Spurgeon

This is amazing, small little paragraphs on each page but deep and rich. So impactful as is everything by this classic author.

The Path of Loneliness by Elizabeth Elliot

This author is one of my absolute favorites, everything she writes is to the point, rich and challenging. This book was a great reminder to cling to Jesus and find satisfaction in Him alone.

Through The Eyes Of A Lion by Levi Lusko

This book is a story of a family walking through grief yet full of practical ways to empower and encourage you to not waste your pain.

Trusting God even when it hurts by Jerry Bridges

I especially loved the chapter on suffering. This is a book I will read over and over again. Great reminders of God’s sovereignty and how He uses our pain for good even when it hurts and we don’t understand.

Heaven by Randy Alcorn

This book is a great resource of all the questions we may have about eternity and heaven and is very biblically based. This is a deep read and took me a while to get through, but was so helpful.

SUFFERING STRONG BY KATHERINE & JAY WOLF

Colors of Goodbye by September Vaudrey

What I loved about this story is that it is just that a real story filled with real pain yet a vain of hope throughout. This was an easy read that was hard to put down.

Books for Kids

Heaven for Kids by Randy Alcorn

I have been reading just a page at a time to my oldest or to all my kids if they are working on something else at that time, since it doesn’t have any pictures. It really is helping me understand more about heaven.

Someone I Loved Died by Christine Tangvald

This is my favorite grief type book for kids and I feel like its very biblical and explains death in a way children can understand. Super short and lots of pictures as well.

Hinds Feet on High Places by Hannah Hurnard

This book is POWERFUL and challenging. Such great application questions after each chapter and packed full of truth. Its an allegory and is a great reminder that we all need in the midst of suffering.

Emily Lost someone she loved by Kathleen Fucci

MUSIC FOR KIDS

Hidden In My Heart Scripture Lullabies

There are a lot of songs that minister to me, too many to list but I wanted to put down our favorite verses that the kids listen to constantly and the Lord uses to encourage and challenge me as I listen along. These help kids learn scripture while playing it in your head and your heart as well. My kids go to bed every night listening to this truth and hope. Gods word never returns void.
